I wanted to pay homage to the post war bobbers when service men coming home from overseas, bought old war surplus Harleys, stripped their bikes of excess weight, and used the only paint that was plentiful, flat black and red, to customize their rides.
I have been into bikes all my life, and I owned a 2009 HD Cross Bones and always wanted to do a ground up build. My wife was going through cancer treatment, and finding, purchasing and planning the bike build was a needed distraction from my wife’s health issues.
Mounted the rear fender on the swing arm (not unique, but way cool), mounted the new smaller gages on the triple-tree bolts to get the right profile.
Mounting new amber, Bates style signal lights to the frame and front forks.
Doing the majority of the work myself from removing and installing the engine and trans, rewiring the entire bike, shaving the front forks and a hundred other things:-)
They think its pretty cool especially for my first build. The bike does remind other bikers of post war bobbers, so I think I hit the mark.
