1977 Yamaha RD 400

What was your intended objective when you started the build?

To build the bike like the one I owned 40 years ago but do the modifications that I’ve had in my head for years.

What motivated you to start your project?

I purchased a brand new one in 1978. It was my only transportation for a while. I sold it and regretted it right away.

What was the most unique and creative thing you did to the bike?

Modify the weak aspects of the stock bike and increase the power throughout the power band.

What are you most proud of?

The new color scheme and how well the bike rides and the fact that I did all the work myself in a 15’ x 12’ garage.

What do other people say about your motorcycle?

Mostly that it looks and sounds badass.

Love it dude. I bet it hauls the mail. I had an RD 250, it was a DS-7. I think 1971. I had that baby up to 110 miles per hour once. Was very stable and cornered fantastically. Have always wanted another one. Love the color you chose. I think in that year you could get a blue one or a red one.

Thanks Kevin. This one was blue but it was roached from some knucklehead leaving it outside in the weather for years.

Fantastic build. I bought a used ‘78 RD 400 as a high school senior. Was notorious in my town. Sold it to a buddy. He still has it and I’m trying to get it back to do exactly what you did. Stay safe.
