What was your intended objective when you started the build?
To not be afraid to get back not only on a bike, but back on the road. To submerge my healing process into the rebirth of a new bike forged from my own design.
What motivated you to start your project?
I had actually went down on my 2015 iron 883 on May 04 2018 doing wheelies on the highway, breaking my right leg in three places of which one protruded from my leg. And almost lost the leg to infection. As I layed bed ridden for around two and a half months I decided I wanted to build my next bike. So before I could start walking again, I bought this 95 xlh deluxe sporty and just watched just about every chopper build there is on the inner web I could while I healed. Then little by little as I was slowly able to leave the bed I would tear down the bike. At the beginning i would fight threw the pain just to be wrenching on my new bike. As time and pain passed, I was able to do more and more. And now 6 months later, not only am I able to walk again, I’m also able to ride. Now my bike is still not complete, but she is a totally different bike now.
What was the most unique and creative thing you did to the bike?
My start up switch. When I went down on my 15 iron 883, one of the parts that hung around was the battery cover. Now my 95 don’t have such a thing. So I bought a manual for my bike, and rerouted the ignition, and start, stop, run switch on hand controls to a toggle switch and push button start in the battery cover and fabricated the cover to mount directly over battery on my 95.
What are you most proud of?
Every thing, brother man. I tore down to the frame, and nearly touched ever nut and bolt on that sucker. I’m mostly proud of myself for getting done what I was able to do. I literally spilt my own blood, sweat, and tears over this bike. I have found a new found power not only in myself, but my abilities.
What do other people say about your motorcycle?
Just about every complement in the book. Especially when they find out how I did it. Best feeling in the world.
