1999 Yamaha YZF-R1

What was your intended objective when you started the build?

Build it right so it didn’t fall apart while riding that bike as hard and fast as I want.

What motivated you to start your project?

Got a good deal on a torn down R1 with low mileage, figured why not.

What was the most unique and creative thing you did to the bike?

I started painting it olive drab and had the wheels powdercoated to match and when I went to my uncles to borrow his press to put in the wheel bearings he said that he had never seen a camouflaged sport bike. So I took the olive drab even further and hand cut stencils to add woodland camo to the bike.

What are you most proud of?

This is the first bike I ever built from nothing but laundry baskets and totes. I picked this bike up in my 94 f250 flatbed, in pieces. I figured out how to get it all back together and took the time to figure it out the right way and now I have a basketcase Corvette killer. The paints pretty badass also.

What do other people say about your motorcycle?

“Is that a Honda?” “That wrap looks great.” Those are real quotes but the bike is well received and it’s really made me want to go farther with my next build.
