I built a rear engine vw trike for a disabled dude that I let live on my property. I was riding a mini bagger 450 Rebel I built from a basket case. But wanted to go to three wheels cause I broke my back in 2010. I didn’t like the funky center of gravity a rear engine has, so I went with a front engine design. Flo is loosely based on a “Swedish trike”, but incorporates features they don’t have. I wanted a full cooling system for the oppressive Mobile, AL heat, so I used an early Porsche 914 4 cylinder with a killer air cooled system mounted on the front of the motor. I also wanted overdrive, so I used a later 914 “side shift” Dog leg transaxle. Like the Swedish trike, I used a gutted VW trans case, an adapter plate, pillow block bearing and a jackshaft to space the engine forward I improve the center of gravity.
The bike started out as a builders neck and a dummy powertrain bolted to the frame table I built. This frame and rear independent suspension was hand bent, fabricated and welded by me. I painted it too.
